About / Voice at the Piano

With her new solo project ‘Voice at the Piano’, vocalist and songwriter Janne Timmer shares her most vulnerable work in an intimate setting. In her songs she explores what it means to be human, a friend and a lover, in a fast-paced changing world. For music and poetry lovers who are into Carole King, Bonnie Raitt, Beth Hart or Jon Allen.

With nothing but a piano and her voice, Janne Timmer invites you into a new chapter: one that’s quieter, more personal, and closer to the heart. After years of performing as the front woman of the blues rock band Harlem Lake, she is now finding her own voice.

Her solo work,  rooted in soul, gospel, blues, and Americana, is all heart and honesty. She delivers songs that feel like conversations, weaving poetry and melody into stories of love, longing, friendship, and the quiet poetry of everyday life. There’s space in her music, for reflection, for feeling, for the listener to really hear the words.

“I wish to touch people. Whether that’s with music, with a story or a poem. Performing solo gives me the freedom to flow with the emotion behind the song.”

We first came to know Janne through her work with Harlem Lake, where her powerful vocals and songwriting helped lead the band to international acclaim. In 2022, they won the European Blues Challenge and went on to play festivals and stages from Portugal to Norway, including the main stage of Bospop in 2023. After years of performing and growing with Harlem Lake, Janne and the band decided to go their separate ways. She is now following a more personal path. One that brings her back to where it all began: her voice at the piano.

Though still early in her solo journey, Janne has already spent years honing her craft. With Harlem Lake, she released two studio and two live albums, writing both lyrics and melodies.

Building on that experience, she’s now working with producer Maurice van Hoek (Douwe Bob, Boaz) on her debut solo album, expected for fall 2026. The album will consist of a collection of songs that reflect on the poetic impact different people have had on her life. She believes it’s through the eyes of others we can find our true selves, and therefore the essence of life. These songs are both an ode to the humans who shaped her, as well as a way to reflect on life and how to navigate its challenges through community.

Janne’s big inspirations are Carole King, Bonnie Raitt, Beth Hart, Stevie Nicks & Jon Allen.
